  • Appropriate Nesting

This test fails when the heading structure of your document skips heading levels. Because of this, you will have to change the heading levels of your content.

When creating a heading structure, think of a family tree: you, your children, and your grandchildren. You (Heading 1) must exist in order to have children (Heading 2). You must have children (Heading 2) before having grandchildren (Heading 3).

    1. In the Accessibility Checker side panel in the right-rail toolbar, expand the Headings accordion and then expand the Appropriate Nesting - Failed accordion.
    2. Right-click or Shift + F10 with an Element selected to open the context menu.
    3. Select Show in Tags Panel from the context menu. The Accessibility Tags panel will open with the heading selected.
    4. Right-click or Shift + F10 with the heading tag selected to open the context menu.
    5. Select Properties... from the context menu. The Object Properties dialog box will open.
    6. In the Tag tab, change the Type to an appropriate heading level.
    7. Select Close.
