Can anyone participate in TRIO-SSS?
No. You must meet the eligibility criteria of US citizen or permanent resident, first-generation college student, income eligible and be planning on graduating with an Associates degree and/or transferring to a university to obtain a bachelor’s degree after Taft College.


Why should I become a TRIO-SSS student?
The TRIO SSS program provides support and guidance to assist you in being successful at Taft College and transferring to a university. TRIO-SSS students receive highly personalized support and opportunities not available to other students on campus.


If I join TRIO-SSS, what am I required to do?
We have expectations rather than requirements. Our students are expected to have frequent contact with the program, minimum of 3 contacts each semester, and they are expected to take full advantage of program services.  The contacts include meeting with a Counselor/Advisor, attending a workshop, or participating in a TRIO-SSS activity. We feel that the more our students are involved with the program, the better they will do academically.


How much of my time will this take?
That is up to you. Our program services are flexible and can be scheduled on an individual basis. Our staff are also available via phone or email.


If I join the program, who is my Academic Counselor/Advisor?
You can view our staff at the tab above.  We are here to help you with all your academic needs, including developing of an Educational Plan, helping you achieve a manageable course load, applying for financial assistance, planning and preparing for transfer, and much more…


Does it cost me anything to join the program?
No, our services are paid for through a grant from the US Department of Education.
