What is CalFresh?

CalFresh, known federally as the Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program or SNAP, is a federally funded program providing eligible families in need with funds to purchase food, seeds and food producing plants.  These funds are deposited onto an Electronic Benefits Transfer (EBT) card which can be used at grocery stores and the Farmer’s Market where EBT is accepted.

Taft College participates in a state-wide outreach program to encourage and aid eligible students with the application and verification process. The Taft College CalFresh Outreach (TCCFO) team provides support with pre-screening students for eligibility, completing the application, and submitting changes or updates to student information as needed. While TCCFO offers guidance throughout the process, we do not determine eligibility or issue CalFresh benefits. Those decisions are made by the County Department of Social Services.

Am I eligible?

You may be eligible for CalFresh if your household income is lower than the maximum limit for the household size.  A household is defined as a person living alone or group of people living together, related or not, who buy food and make meals together.  A student 22 years or older and living with his/her parent(s) can apply as an individual household.  Student who live on-campus and have a meal plan are not eligible.  CARE meals are not considered a meal plan.
