Accessible PDFs are documents designed to be usable by individuals who rely on assistive technologies such as screen readers, screen magnifiers, and voice recognition software. Creating accessible PDFs not only ensures compliance with legal standards like the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) and Section 508 of the Rehabilitation Act, but it also promotes inclusivity and enhances usability for all people on our campus.
This guide will walk you through the essential principles and practical steps for creating PDFs that are readable, navigable, and understandable by everyone. This guide will help you make your content more effective, responsible, and universally available.
In order to get started with creating accessible PDFs, you will need Adobe Acrobat Pro (DC) installed on your device. To assist with accessibility checks, it it highly recommended to download PAC24 (if you use Windows) or use AxesCheck (if you use MAC).
