Introduction to the Program
Taft College’s Graphic Design Certificate prepares students for entry-level opportunities as production designers, junior graphic designers, and creative support professionals. This 18-unit Certificate of Achievement gives students a strong foundation in visual communication, digital art, typography, image editing, branding, layout, and design problem-solving.
Students learn to use industry-standard Adobe applications while developing original design projects and building a portfolio of work that can support employment, freelance opportunities, or continued study.
What Is This Program All About?
Graphic design is the art and practice of using images, typography, color, layout, and technology to communicate ideas clearly and effectively. Designers help shape the way people experience brands, messages, products, events, publications, websites, advertisements, and social media content.
In this program, students learn how to analyze design problems and create visually compelling solutions using current technical tools. Coursework includes digital art, Adobe Photoshop, typography, graphic design, brand and identity systems, and advanced design projects.
