The Curriculum Committee plays a central role in the California Community Colleges. This role has expanded tremendously with the expanding role of faculty in community college governance and with the expanding demand for a curriculum which is flexible and responsive to the needs of our increasingly diverse student body. These demands have necessitated, now more than ever, that faculty understand the role of the Curriculum Committee, remain committed to high curriculum standards, and implement the college curriculum in an organized, efficient manner. Members of the Taft College Curriculum and General Education Committee are responsible for the development, review, renewal, and approval of our curricula.

Technical Review Committee
In addition to checking grammar, syntax, and accuracy, proposal review by the Technical Review Committee assures that all required components of the proposal are present. Technical Review Committee members can work directly with the faculty originator(s) to iron out any potential problems. Revisions or additions are to be made before advancing the proposal to full committee review and can be tracked by the instructor through the Curriculum Tracking Report.

Curriculum Development and Approval Procedures
Procedures for adding new courses and programs to the curriculum, and for making substantial or non-substantial changes to existing curriculum, have been developed to ensure an orderly, efficient means of meeting local and state requirements in accordance with the California Education Code and Title 5 of the California Code of Regulations.
Each of the linked pages lists the sequence of steps necessary for approval and implementation of a particular curriculum development task. It is understood that, at each step, the documents can be returned to the originator(s) for further information or modification before they are forwarded to the next step in the approval process and tracked by the instructor through the Curriculum Tracking Report.
Each procedure requires the completion and submission of a linked Word form. Note that each form can be completed on a PC and then emailed for submission. On each form, a recommended T.O.P. code is required; refer to the Taxonomy of Programs to select the appropriate T.O.P. code.

Transfer Model Curriculum (TMC) Resources
Beginning in the Fall of 2011, community colleges are required by Senate Bill (SB) 1440 and California Education Code (CEC) section 66746(a) to develop and offer “associate degrees for transfer.” By completing determined requirements, CSU is required to grant junior admission for a student with this associate degree “to his or her local [CSU] campus and to a program or major that is similar to his or her community college major or area of emphasis, as determined by the [CSU] campus to which the student is admitted.”

Please utilize the resources gathered below to aide in the TMC development process:
