A message from the President

2012-13 marks the 90th year since Taft College was founded in 1922. The college has a rich history of service to students and the community - with exciting developments on the horizon.

Taft College prides itself as a small, comprehensive institution with a wide range of educational programs and support services to students. We offer 34 degrees and 24 certificates in transfer education and career-technical education programs. Our enrollment of nearly 7000 students have access to innovative, caring faculty members and the support programs needed to promote student success.

Taft College is a leader in offering state-of-the-art curriculum in high-demand fields including Energy Technology, Dental Hygiene, and Early Childhood Education. Our transfer education programs prepare students for advanced study at four-year institutions and universities in a broad range of degree options. Students at Taft College are focused on success --- whether they plan to continue their education at a four-year college, or enter the workforce in a new career. Students already employed in the workforce find Taft College a great place to update their skills and prepare for additional career opportunities.

Since passage of a General Obligation Bond (Measure A) in 2004, Taft College has embarked on an ambitious effort to update and enhance existing facilities, build new instructional spaces and complete a new Master Plan for the campus. To date the Measure A bond has allowed Taft College to complete a new Child Development Center supporting up to 75 children, update the Administration Building, add a new Library, modernize the Sciences Building, and renovate the Cougar Courtyard. In addition, the college has modernized the Technical Arts building and is currently constructing the Transition to Independent Living facility, which will open in 2013. A Student Center housing a new cafeteria, bookstore and student union is in the design phase, along with a remodel and update of campus dormitories.
