Breadth Pattern for the California State University System

To be ready to transfer to the CSU system, students must complete a minimum of 39 semester units of general education coursework. Taft College will certify completion of these units based on the pattern outlined below. For more information, see the CSU General Education form, the college catalog, or your college counselor or advisor.

Area A:  Communication in the English Language & Critical Thinking

Students must complete 9 units with a minimum of 3 units in A1, A2, and A3.

Area B:  Physical Universe and Its Life Forms

Students must complete 9 units with a minimum of 3 units in B1, B2, and B4.  One of the science courses must include a laboratory course.

Area C:  Arts, Literature, Philosophy, and Foreign Language

Students must complete 9 units with a minimum of 3 units in C1 and C2.

Area D:  Social, Political, and Economic Institutions and Behavior, Historical Background

A minimum of 9 units is required in at least 2 of the three disciplines listed.

Students graduating from Taft College must meet Information Competency.

Electives (16-18 units)

Students will need between 16 to 18 units of electives to bring the total units completed to the 60 units. Transferable elective courses must number between 1- 49.

Suggested electives for the CJA major include other CJA courses or CJA 49ABCD, Cooperative Work Experience.
