Credit/No Credit Grade Regulations and Request form

Effective with the Fall semester 1975, any student may elect to enroll in courses graded on a Credit/No Credit basis; however no more than a total of 12 units of such grading will be applied toward an Associate Degree at Taft College.

The purpose of providing students with the Credit/No Credit grading option is to encourage students to explore courses in areas where they may feel they have no special competence, but do have some special interest, without running the risk of damaging their grade point average. It is not recommended that students elect the option of this form of grading for courses in their major field of study. Those courses indicated on the back of this document are available to students on a Credit/No Credit basis.

The following procedures will govern the Credit/No Credit grading system.

• Students must file the Credit/No Credit grade request form in the Counseling Office before the appropriate deadline. (See semester deadline sheet in the Counseling Office.) Once a request has been filed no additional change in the grading system will be permitted.
• In courses in which Credit/No Credit is authorized, the credit grade is granted for performance that is equivalent to the letter grade of "C" or better.
• Credit/No Credit grades and units earned will be recorded on the grade report and permanent record. These units will not be used in computing the students grade point average but will be considered a part of the students study load.
• All units earned on a Credit/No Credit basis in accredited California institutions of higher education or equivalent out-of-state institutions shall be counted in satisfaction of community college curriculum requirements.
• Students who receive an "NC" grade in a course must petition to repeat the course in order to take it again.
