Taft College offers a variety of courses designed to prepare students who wish to pursue professional programs in life science education, zoology, forestry, nursing, dental hygiene, dentistry, medicine, and pharmacy.
| BIOL 1/BIOL 1L Introduction to Biology-Lecture/Lab A course designed as a survey of the principles of biology, including cell theory, cell division, heredity, anatomy and physiology of plants and animals. The course also includes a survey of the principal groups of plants and animals. | |
| BIOL 15 Basic Nutrition In this basic nutrition course students will learn fundamental principles of nutrition and their application to diets under normal conditions. | |
| BOT 1/BOT1L Botany - Lecture/Lab This is a basic course in botany for all students of plant and animal science as an introduction to the fundamental principles of biology as illustrated by plants. | |
| ENST 10 Environmental Studies This is an interdisciplinary introduction to ecology through the study of contemporary environmental problems of renewable and nonrenewable resources. The socioeconomic and political concerns of resource shortages, pollution, conservation, and management will be discussed. | |
| H Ed 41 Medical Terminology The focus of this course is learning the origin, correct spelling, pronunciation, meaning and current usage of common medical terms and their application to clinical records. and reports. | |
| ANAT 6 Human Anatomy - Lecture/Lab A course that examines the structure of the systems of the human body. It is designed to meet anatomy requirements for nursing and physical education students. The course includes the cellular detail (histology) and gross anatomy of all of the body systems. | |
| PHYS 7/PHYS 7L Human Physiology - Lecture/Lab This course provides an introduction to the function and interrelationships of human body systems. An emphasis is placed on the homeostatic nature of human body systems. Human diseases will serve as examples of physiological dysfunction. | |
| MICR 8 Microbiology - Lecture/Lab As an introduction to the microbes, this course will include the morphology, metabolism, and pathogenicity of bacteria, fungi, and protozoa. Special emphasis will be placed on human immunology and those etiological agents of human disease. Laboratory exercises will include aseptic techniques, culturing and identification of common microbes. | |
| ZOOL 1A General Zoology - Lecture/Lab A survey of the animal kingdom, this course is designed as an introduction to the principles of animal biology with special reference to comparative anatomy, physiology, evolution, and ecology. Laboratory work includes the study of cells, tissues, and organ systems of the major vertebrate and invertebrate groups. A number of field trips will serve as an introduction to field biology. | |
| ZOOL 1B Vertebrate Zoology - Lecture/Lab This course is designed to study the comparative anatomy, physiology, evolution, and behavior of the vertebrates. Laboratory work includes a comparison of vertebrate systems as revealed through animal dissection, physiology, and behavior. A number of field trips to examine local ecology are taken. |
