This course covers the pathological processes of inflammation, immunology defense, degeneration, neoplasm, developmental disorders, healing and repair. Recognition of abnormalities in the human body with a special emphasis on normal and abnormal conditions in the oral cavity are also emphasized. Topics to be covered:

DNTL 33 Advanced Clinical Topics
Description- First semester, Second year students
This course teaches the student to perform proficiency in soft tissue diagnosis and evaluation and develops clinical proficiency under supervision by performing curettage and soft tissue management procedures. Also a wide variety of advanced techniques are introduced. Topics to be included:
Ultrasonic instrumentation
Instrument sharpening
Periodontal assessments
Plaque control and home care
Advanced periodontal instrumentation and root morphology
Gingival curettage
Results of periodontal instrumentation and curettage
Periodontal dressings, sutures, and post-operative care
Use of antimicrobial agents and gingival irrigation
Dental hypersensitivity
