Dr. Westwick comes to Taft from Creighton University where he received both his DDS and Master of Science in Dentistry in Periodontology.  Dr. Westwick has been a practicing periodontist for over seventeen years.  Taft College is especially fortunate to be the only dental hygiene program in California that has a periodontist as part of the full-time faculty.

    Dr. Westwick was born in Santa Barbara Ca in 1943. He

attended schools in Ventura, CA graduating from Ventura High

School in 1961. He also attended BYU graduating with a BS degree

in 1965. He taught in Fullerton, CA for two years in the Fullerton

High School District teaching biology and basic science at La Habra

and Sunny Hills high schools. He attended a local college at night

picking up prerequisites for dental school including organic

chemistry and physics. He applied for and was accepted to

Creighton University Dental School in Omaha, Nebraska.

Graduating with a DDS degree in 1972. He spent 2 years in the

Navy as a Navy dentist at Los Alamitos, CA. reaching the rank of

lieutenant commander He was accepted into the masters program

at Creighton University Periodontics program in 1974 graduating

in 1976 with a Master of Science degree. He settled in San Luis

Obispo, CA starting private practice. He continued to practice for

17 years retiring in 1992. He thought that he was wasting his time

in retirement and wanted to return to his first love which was

teaching. A position opened up at Taft College School of Dental

Hygiene for a full time instructor in 1996 and he has been there

ever since. He lives in Atascadero, CA and has an apartment in

Taft. He has two children from a previous marriage, a son Mark

and a daughter Andrea. He is married for six years to his present

wife Maxine. He loves teaching and will continue as long as health

permits.
