Taft College  >  Faculty & Staff  >  Faculty Resources  >  Absence and Travel

Please note the following procedural responsibility in reference to class assignments: In case of unplanned absence/emergency, the instructor is required to call the Office of Instruction at (661) 763-7919 or email at instruction@taftcollege.edu. Please include course number, dates, times and reason in your message. If an 8:10 a.m. class is to be missed, please call or email the Office of Instruction between 7:30 a.m. and 8:00 a.m. For all planned absences, please fill out a Plans for Classes to be Missed form. The instructor may choose to cancel class or have a substitute for continued class instruction. If you will miss a class and you know of someone already approved by Taft College who can sub, please let us know so that we can contact the person about subbing for your courses.

If a substitute is requested, instructors are to provide assignment information for the substitute as soon as possible before the absence. Under ordinary circumstances, it is assumed that the instructor will return to teaching duties on the succeeding day, unless notification is given to the contrary. All faculty are responsible for completing an absence report form at the end of each month. Please see Human Resources for information regarding absence reports. Deadline for absence reports to be submitted the 25th of each month.

Faculty travel packets are provided in the Instructional Support Services office. Prior approval for all travel is required. Guidelines are provided. Packets will be returned due to insufficient information for revision if they do not meet the posted guidelines. Please see the Taft College Policies & Procedures.

Reimbursement claims must be processed within 10 days of returning to the College, or they will be returned without reimbursement.
