10 to 12 hours per week reading, writing, and taking exams.
- Special Requirements: This course is delivered using the ETUDES program on the computer. Students are required to have Internet access. Students using a proctor for exams need to submit a signed Proctor Identification Form to the instructor by the beginning of the course. See the Proctor Identification
Procedures for directions on how to set up a proctor for
approval. If the instructor does not have a signed proctor form by June 10th, the exam must be taken in the Library on the Taft College campus. This is to allow time for contacting the proctor to approve, and then mailing the exam to the proctor. Students must be self-motivated and work independently to be successful in this course.
- Assignments & Tests: Students will be responsible for the following assignments, projects, papers, and exams:
- Assess Yourself Questionnaire, DO NOT WRITE IN THE TEXT. 50 points possible. Due June 14th.
- Behavior Change Contract, DO NOT WRITE IN THE TEXT. 50 points possible. Due June 14th.

- Family Health Tree project - Due July 26th, 100 points possible. Print the chart from the Assignments, Tests, and Surveys link, and follow the directions. You may also make your own chart to fit your particular family. You will either mail this document to me or it can be turned in at the Library on campus.
When mailing this or any other project to me, IT NEEDS TO BE POSTMARKED BY THE DUE DATE TO AVOID A LATE PENALTY.
- Exam 1 - to be taken on Monday, June 21st, Chapters 1-5, 100 points possible.
- Exam 2 - to be taken on Monday, July 12th, Chapters 6-10, 100 points possible.
- Final Exam - to be taken on Thursday, July 29th, Chapters 11, 12, 14, 15, and 16. SKIP Chapter 13. 100 points possible
- Proctored Exams: Yes, for non-Taft area residents. See the
Proctor Identification
Procedures for directions on how to set up a proctor for
approval. If you are using a proctor, it is your responsibility to provide your proctor with 3-9"X12" manila envelopes, with postage attached, to mail your exams back to me. Taft-area students are expected to take exams in the Library on the TC campus, proctored by college staff.
- Additional Comments: Because this is a distance learning
course, attendance is not an issue. Turning assignments in
on time is (late penalties are severe). The due dates for all projects are listed on this Orientation sheet, the course Syllabus, and in the Assignments, Tests, and Surveys area. If you do not meet the first assignment deadline, or take the first exam, I will assume you do not wish to stay in
the class and drop you unless you contact me. After that, it is your
responsibility to drop the course. Drops will not be backdated. Contact the counseling center or the distance learning help desk if you want to drop the class.
- Here are some helpful suggestions for successfully completing the course:
- Follow the schedule on the syllabus.
- Read each chapter, and then create a set of notes to study.
- Study all terms -- any of them could appear on an exam.
- Do any of the review activities that may help you at the end of each chapter. These do not need to be turned in to me.
- Turn in assignments and take exams on the date listed -- all late work is docked (10% the 1st week, 20% the 2nd week) and not accepted at all if more than two weeks late.
- Exams are a combination of multiple choice and true/false.
- STUDENTS NEED TO USE SCANTRON SHEETS ON EXAMS -- PREFERABLY FORM #882-E, AVAILABLE IN ANY COLLEGE BOOKSTORE.
