SPAN 1501-40, Spanish for Healthcare Professionals

Spanish 1501 is an introductory Spanish course where students learn basic conversational skills in Spanish designed to serve those in the medical professions. The final goal of the course is to provide the foundations for oral comprehension and proficiency in using the Spanish language in real communicative situations at the introductory level.

  • Textbook & Estimated Costs:
    • Purchase Workbook:  Basic Spanish for Medical Personnel Houghton Mifflin Company (2006) workbook with audio CD. Call bookstore for price. Bookstore:(661) 763-7731.
  • Estimated Time Per Week: Students can expect to spend approximately 6 hours per week reading, studying, completing the workbook/lab manual and taking quizzes and exams.
  • Special Requirements: The entire course will be conducted on-line. There are 5 on-line quizzes (open book) and a composition for lesson 5 that must be submitted on-line, and a Mid-Term (no books or notes) to be taken in the LRC. Students that can’t take the exams in the LRC are required to send a proctor form.
  • Assignments & Tests:  5 on-line quizzes, a Mid-Term exam and a small composition for Lesson 5.
  • Proctored Exams: The Mid-Term exam. See the Proctor Identification Procedures for directions on how to set up a proctor for approval.
