Math 1050-41 Elementary Algebra
This course is an introductory course in algebra.
Topics include the real number system, solving equations and inequalities,
graphing linear equations, exponents and polynomials, and factoring and
graphing linear systems.
- Prerequisite:
Qualification by assessment process or completion
of Math 0240 with a grade of "C" or better
- Advisory: Eligibility for Reading 1005 strongly recommended

- Textbook & Estimated Costs:
- Required Textbook: Introductory Algebra Eighth Edition, Lial/Hornsby/McGinnis,
ISBN 0321279212. The textbook comes with a registration card that
allows students to access MyMathLab. The textbook is available at
the Taft College bookstore.
Estimated Time Per Week: Students can expect to spend
approximately 10 to 12 hours per week completing homework assignments
and tests.
Special Requirements: The entire course will be conducted online
through the Etudes program. Students are required to have Internet
access, an active email account, the ability to use word processing,
attach files, send emails, and work independently.
Assignments & Tests: Students will complete 37
homework assignments, 6 chapter tests, and a final exam.
Proctored Exams: No, all chapter tests and homework assignments
will be completed online through the MyMathLab website.
Additional Comments: It is the student’s responsibility to
drop the course if they find they are unable to complete the course
requirements. Contact the counseling center or the distance learning
help desk for information on how to drop the course.
