Math 1050-40 Elementary Algebra
Math 1050 is an introductory course in elementary algebra
and will introduce the main topics of algebra, which are: the real number
system, equations, inequalities, graphs of linear equations and inequalities
in two variables, systems of linear equations and inequalities, exponents
and polynomials and factoring. Only chapters 1-6 will be covered.

Qualification by assessment process or completion
of Math 0240 with a grade of "C" or better

- Purchased Textbook: "Introductory Algebra" by Lial, Hornsby and
McGinnis, 8th ed." ISBN 0321371348. Available in the Taft
College Bookstore.
Estimated Time Per Week: Students can expect to spend at least
10-12 hours per week reading, doing homework problems, watching math
videos and/or working on MyMathLab and taking tests.
Special Requirements: The entire course will be conducted online
through the Etudes-NG program. Students are required to have Internet
access, an active email account, the ability to use word processing,
attach files, send emails, and work independently.
Assignments & Tests: Homework (is required), tests and
the final will be submitted through mymathlab.com. Details can be found
in the syllabus.Proctored Exams: No, all chapter tests and
homework assignments will be completed online through the MyMathLab Web
site.
Additional Comments: It is the student’s responsibility to
drop the course if they find they are unable to complete the course
requirements. Contact the counseling center or the distance learning
help desk to submit drop slips.
