Course Details

- Class Meets: June 8 – July 30, 2009
- Textbook &
Estimated Costs:
-
Rental
Textbook: Access to Health, Donatelle, Tenth Edition, available as a rental from the Taft
College Bookstore. Rental price is $18.35. ISBN: 9780805332490
- Estimated
Time per Week: Students can expect to spend approximately 10 to 12
hours per week reading, writing, and taking exams.
- Special
Requirements: The On-line students will take the course using the
ETUDES program on the computer. Students are required to have Internet
access. Students using a proctor for exams (only out-of-area students)
need to submit a signed proctor form (see Distance Learning section on
Taft College website) to the instructor at the beginning of the course.
If the instructor does not have a signed proctor form BY June 9th, the exam must be taken in the Library on the Taft College
campus. This is to allow time for mailing the exam to the proctor.
Students must be self-motivated and work independently to be successful
in this course.
- Assignments &
Tests:
Students will be responsible for the following assignments, projects,
papers, and exams:
- Proctored
Exams: Yes, for non-Taft area residents. If you are
using a proctor, it is your responsibility to provide that proctor with
3-9" X 12" manila envelopes, with postage attached, to mail
your exams
back to me. Taft-area residents are expected to take exams in
the Library on the TC campus, proctored by college staff.
- Additional
Comments: Additional Comments: Because this is a distance learning
course, attendance is not an issue. Turning assignments in on time
is (late penalties are severe). The due dates for all
projects are listed both on this Orientation sheet and the course
Syllabus. If you do not meet the first assignment deadline, or
take the first exam, I will assume you do not wish to stay in
the class and drop you unless you contact me. After that, it is your
responsibility to drop the course. Drops will not be backdated. Contact
the counseling center or the distance learning help desk to submit drop
slips. Here are some helpful suggestions for successfully completing the
course:
- Follow the schedule on the
syllabus.
- Read each chapter, and then
create a set of notes to study.
- Study all terms -- any of
them could appear on an exam.
- Do any of the review
activities that may help you at the end of each chapter. These do
not need to be turned in to me.
- Turn in
assignments and take exams on the date listed -- all late work is
docked (10% the 1st week, 20% the 2nd week) and not accepted at all
if more than two weeks late.
- Exams are a combination of
multiple choice and true/false.
- STUDENTS
NEED TO USE SCANTRON SHEETS ON EXAMS -- PREFERABLY FORM #882-E,
AVAILABLE IN ANY COLLEGE BOOKSTORE.
