History 2231: United States History to 1877

To understand the context of the American past and the roots and nature of change in American society. To gain a deeper understanding of American philosophies, doctrines and society through discussion, reading and review of historical sources, both primary and secondary.

  • Estimated Time Per Week: Students can expect to spend approximately 8 to 10 hours per week reading, writing and taking exams.
  • Special Requirements: Access to a computer with current software helpful but not required.
  • Assignments & Tests: Students will complete 18 chapter discussions, 3 midterm exams and one final exam.
  • Proctored Exams: Yes. See the Proctor Identification Procedures for directions on how to set up a proctor for approval.
  • Additional Comments: Because this is an online course, attendance is not an issue. Turning assignments in on time is. If you do not meet the first assignment deadline, I will assume you do not wish to stay in the class and drop you unless you contact me. After that, it is your responsibility to drop the course. Drops will not be backdated. Contact the counseling center or the distance learning help desk to submit drop slips.
