Soc 1: Introduction to Sociology

This course is a general introduction to the basic concepts and principles of sociology. It includes the analysis and explanation of such topics as culture, socialization, group dynamics, societies, deviance, social inequality, institutions, population, and collective

    • The instructor’s office is off campus. He can be reached, 8:00 a.m. – 4:00 p.m., Monday thru Friday by telephone. Phone calls will be taken during office hours or at other times agreed upon between the student and instructor. If you need an immediate answer, call the office number or email the instructor.

  • Estimated Time Per Week: Students can expect to spend approximately 8 to 10 hours per week reading, writing, and taking quizzes and exams.
  • Special RequirementsThis is an on-line course using ETUDES-NG. Students are required to have Internet access, the ability to use word processing, conduct Internet searches, attach files, send emails, and work independently. The on-line class allows for discussions among the class and adds an excellent learning opportunity for you. You will work at your own pace within the normal schedule guidelines.

  • Assignments & Tests: 8 Observation Journals, 12 Module assignments, 1 Mid Term and 1 Final Examination
  • Proctored Exams: Proctors are NOT needed
  • Additional Comments: Because this is a distance-learning course, attendance is not an issue. Turning assignments in on time is. If you do not meet the first assignment deadline, I will assume you do not wish to stay in the class and drop you unless you contact me. After that, it is your responsibility to drop the course. Drops will not be backdated. Contact the counseling center or the distance learning help desk to drop the course.
