POSC 1-14 Government

A study of the structure and functions of government in the United States with an emphasis on the constitutional background of the federal system.

  • Textbooks & Estimated Costs:
    • Rent OR Purchase Text: American Government Continuity and Change (2006 election edition) by Karen O’Connor and Larry Sabato, Allyn and Bacon (ISBN 0-321-31710-6). Rental price is 20% of the cost of the textbook. Available from the TC Bookstore or other online bookstores.
  • Estimated Time Per Week: Students can expect to spend, on average, at least 12-15 hours per week reading, writing papers, and taking tests.
  • Special Requirements: N/A
  • Assignments & Tests: Students will read, on average, 3 chapters a week and complete 3 activities as week. These activities will consist of one or two written chapter assignments and no more than online discussion and approximately one quiz or test (there are two major tests—a midterm and a final, and about 6 quizzes total) per week.
  • Proctored Exams: All quizzes and tests are taken online through the ETUDES system.
  • Additional Comments: The course syllabus contains all the information necessary for taking this course. Careful and thorough reading of it is essential and suffices for orientation.
  • New to ETUDES-NG: Be sure to check System Requirements before getting started with ETUDES-NG. You need to do this on each computer you use while taking a class through ETUDES-NG.
