H Ed 41: Medical Terminology

This course is designed to provide the student with an understanding and working knowledge of medical terms related to the major body systems, pathological conditions, and diagnostic techniques.

  • Textbook & Estimated Costs:
    • Purchase: Delmars Comprehensive Medical Terminology: A competency-based approach, Betty Jones, 2nd Edition. Available in the TC Bookstore and other bookstores. Approximate cost is $65.00. This is an approximation and may be subject to change. ISBN: 1-4018-1004.
  • Estimated Time Per Week: Students can expect to spend approximately 9 hours per week reading, researching and writing about common diseases, and taking quizzes and exams.
  • Special Requirements: The entire class will be conducted online. Students are required to have Internet access, the ability to use word processing, conduct Internet searches, attach files, send e-mails, and work independently.
  • Assignments & Tests: Students will complete two medical article essays, two pathological conditions essays, answer questions regarding special topics within each chapter, one mid-term exam, and one final exam.
  • Proctored Exams: Yes Proctor Procedure & Request Form The mid-term and final exams will be taken at Taft College unless the student lives outside a 1-1/2 hour distance from Taft. In that case, we will need to agree on a professional who is willing to serve as a proctor for these exams.
  • Additional Comments: Because this is a distance-learning course, attendance is not an issue. Turning in assignments on time will be an issue. If you do not meet the first assignment deadline, I will assume you do not wish to stay in the class and will drop you unless you contact me. After that, it is your responsibility to drop the course. However, if you are not "attending" class, I will make every attempt to contact you to discuss with you if you are having difficulties I can help with. I am very interested in helping you succeed in this course.
  • New to ETUDES-NG: be sure to check System Requirements before getting started with ETUDES-NG. You need to do this on each computer you use while taking a class through ETUDES-NG.
