ECON 1A Principles of Economics – Macro

This course is an introduction to the principles of macroeconomics. Analysis of national income, the business cycle, employment, price stability, economic growth, fiscal policy and monetary policy are emphasized. Study of the tools of economic thinking and the historical development of those tools are also studied.

  • Estimated Time Per Week:  Students should expect to spend approximately 10-12 hours per week doing coursework and participating in online discussions/forums.
  • Special Requirements: The format of the class allows student to have substantial control of their work schedule within the confines of deadlines established by the course syllabus. Students must logon to the course website during the first week of class. All work must be completed and turned in by the due dates set up in the syllabus. Exceptions to the due dates are allowed in certain situations, however students are required to communicate with the instructor as early as possible when these situations arise.
  • Assignments & Tests:  Selected end of textbook chapter problems and weekly quizzes, unit exams and participation in scheduled forums.
  • Proctored Exams: No, all quizzes and exams are conducted online.
  • Additional Comments: Because this is a distance-learning course, attendance is not an issue, however turning assignments in regularly is. It is your responsibility to drop the class if you decide you do not want to continue. Deadlines for homework and exams are defined in the syllabus. Contact the counseling center or the distance learning help desk to drop the course.
