CJA 2135-40: Public Safety Communications

This is an introductory course dealing with all aspects of public safety communications.  It will cover the techniques of effectively communicating facts, information, and ideas in a clear and logical manner for a variety of public safety systems reports, i.e. crime/violations/incident reports, letters, memoranda, directives and administrative reports.  Students will gain practical experience in interviewing, not taking, report writing and testifying.

  • Advisory: Eligibility for English 1500 strongly recommended.

  • Class Meets: Class begins on January 19, 2010 and ends on May 20, 2010.
  • Textbook & Estimated Cost:
    • Rental Textbook: Brown, Jerrold, G. and Cox, Clarice R. Report Writing for Criminal Justice Professionals, 2nd edition, Cincinnati, Oh., Anderson Publishing Co.
  • Estimated Time Per Week:  3 to 6 hours per week
  • Assignments & Tests: There will be a weekly reading assignment along with a weekly written assignment. There will be a midterm project and a final exam.
  • Proctored Exams: No proctor
  • Additional Comments: This is a distance learning class, please be aware of the class deadlines, they will be strictly enforced.
  • New to ETUDES: Be sure to check System Requirements before getting started with ETUDES. You need to do this on each computer you use while taking a class through ETUDES.
