Art 1520-40: Survey of World Art History

This course continues the study of architecture, sculpture, painting of world cultures from the 1400 to the present.

    • Student Contact Hours: Monday, Wednesday, and Friday from 2:00 -p.m. to 3:00 p.m.
    • The instructor will be available on campus during the week and can arrange to meet with students there. And, the instructor will check for message in the Private Message Center several times a day during the week, and at least one time during the weekends. If you are an auditory learner, you may consider sending the instructor a phone number where she can call you and answer your questions or talk you through something. Phone calls will be taken during office hours or at other times convenient for the student and instructor. The course message center should be used for all on-line correspondence unless you need an immediate answer. In that case, call the instructor's office number and send a message through the Message Center.

  • Textbook & Estimated Costs:
    • Rental Textbook: Gardner’s ART THROUGH THE AGES, 12th edition, (Thompson & Wadsworth, 2005). This book is available as a rental from the Taft College Bookstore or for purchase from several online bookstores.   • Estimated Time Per Week: Students can expect to spend approximately 8 to 10 hours per week reading, writing, and taking quizzes and exams.
  • Special Requirements: This course is structured as a on-line course using an Etudes shell to submit work and take exams. Students are welcome to use the computers in the LRC and computer labs to submit their work. Papers are to be word processed. Students are expected to work independently.
  • Assignments & Tests: Students will complete quizzes, midterm and final exams, 5 postings, 1 comparison-contrast research paper. 
  • Proctored Exams: Yes, by the computer. The exams are timed and the computer is set to allow only one entry to the exams.  
  • Additional Comments: Because this is a distance learning course, attendance is not an issue. Turning assignments in on time is. If you do not meet the first assignment deadline, I will assume you do not wish to stay in the class and drop you unless you contact me.  After that, it is your responsibility to drop the course. Drops will not be backdated. Contact the counseling center or the distance learning help desk to drop the course.

    This course is reading intensive, and having both a copy of the textbook and the time to read the assigned chapters are essential to succeeding in this course.
    Substantial writing assignments and/or papers will be expected.
  • New to ETUDES:  Be sure to check System Requirements before getting started with ETUDES. You need to do this on each computer you use while taking a class through ETUDES.
