Math 50-80 Elementary Algebra
Math 50 is an introductory course in elementary algebra
and will introduce the main topics of algebra, which are: the real number
system, equations, inequalities, graphs of linear equations and inequalities
in two variables, systems of linear equations and inequalities, exponents
and polynomials and factoring. Only chapters 1-6 will be covered.

Qualification by assessment process or completion
of Math 56 with a grade of "C" or better

McGinnis, 8th ed." ISBN 0321371348 Includes: Book, MyMathLab,
Student Solution's Manual, Digital Video Tutor
Estimated Time Per Week: Students can expect to spend at least
10-12 hours per week reading, doing homework problems, watching math
videos and/or working on MyMathLab and taking proctored tests.
Special Requirements: Internet connection, and a valid email
address to use MyMathLab are required. Students will submit exams via a
proctor and the U.S. Postal mail or through the Taft College Learning
Resource Center.
Assignments & Tests: Homework will be submitted
through mymathlab.com. Details can be found in the syllabus.
Proctored Exams: Exams include proctored Chapter tests and a
Final exam.
Additional Comments: Attendance is measured by the
student’s participation and progress through the course. Students may be
dropped from the class if they are not making "continuing progress" in
the class. "Continuing Progress" is defined as participating in the
class discussions and taking the chapter tests no later than the last
day scheduled
