Hum 10-80 Introduction to Film Studies
This is an introductory course designed to
educate the student about the form and content of narrative film
from the early Twentieth Century to the present.

- The instructor will
be available on campus during the week and can arrange to
meet with students there. And, the instructor will check
for messages in the Private Message Center several times a
day during the week, and at least one time during the
weekends. If you are an auditory learner, you may consider
sending the instructor a phone number where she can call you
and answer your questions or talk you through something.
Phone calls will be taken during office hours or at other
times convenient for the student and instructor. The course
message center should be used for all on-line correspondence
unless you need an immediate answer. In that case, call the
instructors office number and send a message through the
Message Center.

:
Students can expect to spend
approximately 8 to 10 hours per week reading, writing, viewing
films, and
taking quizzes and exams.
- Special Requirements
: This
course is structured as a online course using an Etudes shell to
submit work and take exams. Students are welcome to use the
computers in the LRC and computer labs to submit their work.
Students must complete the Quiz on the Course Requirements by
the due date or they will be dropped from the course.
- Assignments & Tests: Students
will complete 1 quiz, 5 exams, 5 postings, 1 comparison-contrast
research paper. The complete syllabus is in the class shell as
are the complete instructions.
- Proctored Exams:
Yes, by the computer. Students are only allowed one entry per
exam and the computer strictly enforces the time limit for the
exams.
- Additional Comments: Because
this is a distance learning course, attendance is not an issue.
Turning assignments in on time is. If you do not meet the first
assignment deadline, it will be assume that you do not wish to
stay in the class and you will be dropped from the course.
After that, it is your responsibility to drop. the course. The
last date to drop the course with a W is April 11. Drops will
not be backdated. Contact the instructor, counseling center or
the distance learning help desk to drop the course.
