Dram 10-70 Introduction to Theater

This is an introductory course designed to educate the student about the form and content of narrative film from the early Twentieth Century to the present.

  • Textbook & Estimated Costs:
    • Rental Textbook: Theatre, The Lively Art (5th edition) Edwin Wilson and Alvin Goldfarb (McGraw Hill, 2004), available as a rental from the Taft College Book Store. Rental Price is 20% of the cost of the book. ISBN: ISBN-13 9780073514123 Remember, you must return rental texts or you will be billed for the cost of the text.
    • Purchase: If you live outside of the Taft area, it might be simpler to just buy the text from the publisher or an independent book retailer.
  • Estimated Time Per Week: Students can expect to spend approximately 7 to 10 hours per week reading, writing, watching films and taking exams and writing the two required analytical reviews.
  • Special Requirements: This course is delivered through the Etudes program. Directions for the course are included in the course syllabus.

  • Proctored Exams: Yes- See the Proctor Identification Procedures for directions on how to set up a proctor for approval.
  • Additional Comments: Because this is a distance learning course, attendance is not an issue. Turning assignments in on time is. Students must stay on the assignment schedule. Not keeping current is the equivalent of missing classes. As you will see in the attached syllabus there is a system in place for late arrival of materials.
