Business 59-70 Machine Calculation
This course provides instruction on touch addition and
solving business problems using the electronic calculator. Assignments are
based on typical business situations and problems. Instruction is on an
individual progress basis.

- The instructor will be available on campus during office hours,
8:00 a.m. – 12:00 p.m., Monday-Wednesday-Friday in person or by
telephone. Messages will be answered and assignments will be graded
daily. Phone calls will be taken during office hours or at other
times agreed upon between the student and instructor.

- Purchase: Carter and Young. Electronic Calculators: A Mastery Approach. Houghton Mifflin
Co., 1990 available from the TC Bookstore or other bookstores.

- Estimated Time Per Week:
Students can expect to spend
approximately 3 hours per week completing assigned problems from the
text, performance drills and taking function tests and a final exam.
- Special Requirements:
Directions for the course are
included in the course syllabus. Students can submit their work via
email, U.S. postal mail, through the TC aides at TCI, or in person. Your
text is a workbook. Please attach your machine calculator tape to the
answer sheet on each page and submit to the instructor for grading.
Students are expected to work independently. Students must contact the
instructor the first week of class either by phone or email so I know
you are in the class and understand the process.
- Assignments & Tests:
Students will complete the practice
assignments as listed on the Check Sheet attached to the syllabus.
Students will also complete 3 performance drills, 2 unit function tests
and 1 final exam for grading.
- Proctored Exams:
Yes. See the
Proctor Identification Procedures
for directions on how to set up a proctor for approval.
- Additional Comments:
Because this is a distance learning course,
attendance is not an issue; however, turning assignments in on time is.
If you do not submit an assignment over a 2 week period I will assume
you do not wish to stay in the class and you will be dropped from the
class. Drops will not be backdated. Contact the counseling center or the
distance learning help desk to drop the course.
