BUS 52B-70 General Accounting

An introductory course in accounting Business 52B stresses theory and principles of elementary accounting applicable to single proprietorship. The course includes the entire bookkeeping cycle. The program gives the student practical training for clerical, bookkeeping, and managerial positions. A continuation of the introduction to accounting. Balance sheet issues, accounting for different legal forms of business, cash flows, and cost accounting issues are studied.

  • Textbook & Estimated Costs:
    • Rental Textbook: College Accounting, 8th Edition 1-26, McQuaig & Bille, ISBN: 0-618-381619. Rental Price is 20% of the cost of the book.
    • Purchase: Working Papers with Study Guide 14-26 to Accompany College Accounting, 8th Edition, McQuaig & Bille. Approximate cost is $35.00-$40.00
  • Estimated Time Per Week: Students can expect to spend approximately 8 to 10 hours per week reading, doing homework assignments, and completing exams.
  • Special Requirements: All students are expected to turn in homework on the original working papers pages. Copies will not be accepted. Directions for the course are included in the course syllabus. Students can submit their work via Fax, U.S. postal mail, the LRC on campus, through the TC aides at TCI, or in person. Students are expected to work independently. This course is not delivered through the Etudes program.
  • Assignments & Tests: Homework assignments from each chapter are required for grading. Multiple choice exams are given.
  • Proctored Exams: Yes- See the Proctor Identification Procedures for directions on how to set up a proctor for approval.
  • Additional Comments: Because this is a distance-learning course, attendance is not an issue. Turning assignments in regularly is. Deadline is defined as follows; homework and tests are expected to be completed and in my hands by the due date in course syllabus. It is the responsibility of the student to drop the course. Contact the counseling center or the distance learning help desk to drop the course.
