BUS 50-70 Business Mathematics
Use of arithmetic functions with emphasis on business
applications is the focus of this course. Special attention is given to
equations and their applications to business problems.

ISBN – 13: 978-0-131-14014-1. As of the Fall Semester, the rental fee
for this text was $25.50 plus tax (please be aware that the prices are
subject to change Spring Semester). All rental agreement policies will
be explained at the Taft College bookstore.
Estimated Time Allotment Needed Per Week for This Class: Dependent
upon the students understanding of the subject material, he or she should
expect so spend 6-8 hours outside of class studying and completing
assignments (i.e. reading the assigned chapters, completing the assigned
questions and taking exams). The student will need to schedule for four Unit
Exams during the semester. Each Unit Exam is designed to last for 90
minutes.Special Requirements: : Directions for the course are
included in the course syllabus. Students can submit their work via U.S.
postal mail, the LRC on campus, through the TC aides at TCI, or in person.
Fax and e-mail are not accepted for submission of assignments. Students are
expected to work independently. This course is not delivered through the
Etudes program.
Assignments & Tests: Homework assignments and case study
analysis are required for grading. In addition, two multiple-choice exams
are given.
Proctored Exams: Yes. All exams must be proctored. See the Proctor Identification Procedures for
directions on how to set up a proctor for approval.
Additional Comments: Because this is a distance-learning course,
attendance is not an issue but completion of assignments by specified due
dates is required for satisfactory progress. If you do not meet the first
assignment deadline, I will assume you do not wish to stay in the class and
may drop you unless you contact me. Deadlines are defined as follows: case
studies, homework and tests are expected to be completed and date stamped by
the LRC, or postmarked on or before the stated due date as listed in the
syllabus to receive full credit. Just as it is the students’ responsibility
to sign up for the course it is your responsibility as well to drop the
course. Drops will not be backdated. Contact the counseling center or the
distance learning help desk to drop the course.
