BUS 32-80 Introduction to Business

Business 32 is survey course designed to give the student an overview of the functions, objectives, organization and structure of business and its importance in a free enterprise system.

  • Textbook & Estimated Costs:
    • Rental Textbook: Contemporary Business, 11th Edition, Boone and Kurtz, ISBN: 0-324-20613-5. As of Fall Semester the rental fee for this text was $25.95 plus tax (please be aware that the prices are subject to change Spring Semester). All rental agreement policies will be explained at the Taft College bookstore.
  • Estimated Time Allotment Needed Per Week for This Class: Dependent upon the students understanding of the subject material, he or she should expect so spend 6-8 hours outside of class studying and completing assignments (i.e. reading the chapters, home work assignments, Case Study analysis and exams).
  • Special Requirements: This course is delivered through the Etudes program. Please review all technical requirements (PC or Mac) to ensure that your computer is properly configured to use the ETUDES-NG software.
  • Assignments & Tests: Homework assignments from each chapter, Case Study analysis and two exams, a mid-term and final, are required for grading. The mid-term and final exams will consist of 75 - 100 multiple-choice type questions.
  • Proctored Exams: No. All exams will be conducted and submitted electronically through the ETUDES-NG program.
  • Additional Comments: : Because this is an online course, attendance is not an issue but completion of assignments by specified due dates is required for satisfactory progress. If you do not meet the first assignment deadline, I will assume you do not wish to stay in the class and may drop you unless you contact me. Deadlines are defined as follows: homework assignments, Case Study analysis and the mid-term and final exams are expected to be completed and electronically submitted on or before the stated due date as listed in the syllabus to receive full credit. Just as it is the students’ responsibility to sign up for the course it is your responsibility as well to drop the course. Drops will not be backdated. Contact the counseling center or the distance learning help desk to drop the course.
  • New to ETUDES-NG: Be sure to check System Requirements before getting started with ETUDES-NG. You need to do this on each computer you use while taking a class through ETUDES-NG.
