Assignments & Tests:
Weekly Short Essays: Each week essay topics, based on
weekly lectures, simple field assignments or assigned websites will
be assigned for grade points. These essay questions will be found at
the end of each lecture and will be due the Sunday of each
week. While these essays may ask specific questions, I expect the
papers to look like "college level" papers. This includes an
introduction, body of content, and summary. Generally, at least 2 –
5 paragraphs will be required to fully answer the questions. If
English is your second language, please have someone else proof-read
your paper for grammar and sentence structure.
Supplement Review: Students will search the net for a
specific nutrition supplement. Students will compare and contrast
information from reliable, scientifically based internet sources and
those sources which are based in hype. Instructor will guide
students in their search for scientific data bases.
Personal Diet Inventory Assignment: Students will analyze
three-day food records throughout the semester as we discuss various
nutrients. A written evaluation based on nutrient recommendations
compared to student nutrient intake will be required at the end of the
semester.
Weekly Discussions: Students will be asked to post responses
to weekly questions in a dialogue chamber. These will be graded.
Exams: If students reside in the area, the mid-term and final
exams are expected to be proctored in the Taft College Learning Center.
If the student lives out of the area, a proctor will be needed for
exams. The student must find an acceptable proctor and location. I must
pre-approve the proctor prior to exam. Acceptable sites include library,
military education office, or school. Acceptable proctors include a
librarian, a military education officer, a teacher, or clergy member.
All proctor forms must be approved by the end
of the second week of the course. Proctors must have access
to e-mail for correspondence with myself. Proctors will be sent
information in regards to the exams.
