Art 2-80 Introduction to Art

This is a survey course structured especially for non-art majors. It is designed to assist the student to see and respond to the visual environment. Emphasis is placed on the evaluation of everyday art forms: home design, furniture, ceramics, textiles, graphic art, industrial design, advertising, film, photography, painting, sculpture and architecture.

  • Textbook & Estimated Costs:
    • Rental Text: ARTFORMS Preble, 8th Edition
    • Rental price is 20% of the cost of the textbook. Available from the TC Bookstore or other online bookstores.
    • Additional Materials: CD to accompany the text which is checked out through the LRC 
  • Estimated Time Per Week: Up to 10 hours per week
  • Special Requirements: Access to the internet, and some basic art materials for collages or drawings, access to a scanner if you are not going to mail the original projects 
  • Assignments & Tests:
    • Assignments (Complete assignment instructions for each assignment is located in the class shell by clicking on the assignment link): 
      • 1 - Written assignment 100 points. Prior to reading Chapter 1
        Interview at least 5 members of your family and friend circle.
      • 2 - Written assignment 100 points
      • 3 - Self-Portrait Project 100 points.
      • 4 – Visit 3 Museums. 100 points
    • Quiz and Exams:
      • Quiz covering the course requirements. 100 points
      • Exam 1 100 points
      • Exam 2 100 points
      • Exam 3 100 points
  • Proctored Exams: The quiz is not proctored, but the exams are proctored by the computer. Students are only allowed one entry per exam, and the computer strictly enforces the time limit. 
  • Additional Comments: This course is for the non-art major and it does not require drawing or painting ability, just the ability to cut or tear paper and then paste that paper to illustration board.
  • New to ETUDES-NG: Be sure to check System Requirements before getting started with ETUDES-NG. You need to do this on each computer you use while taking a class through ETUDES-NG.
