COSC 1901-40 Introduction to Electronic Databases MS Access 2007
This course is an introduction to electronic Database Management
Systems (DBMS) in the Microsoft Windows environment. The student will learn the
operation and features of Microsoft Access 2007 to support common data management
requirements in a business environment.

Textbooks & Estimated Costs:
Microsoft Office Access 2007 Complete Concepts
and Techniques by Shelly, Cashman, and Pratt. ISBN: 1-4188-4340-7.
Available from the
TC Bookstore or other online bookstores. The cost of the textbook is
$75.75. You will need to purchase the text.
Estimated Time Per Week:
Expect to spend about five to seven hours per
week on this class.
Special Requirements: Assignments must be completed using
Microsoft Access 2007. If you don’t have Access on your home or office
computer, you may complete your work on campus. If you’re interested in
purchasing Microsoft Office (including Word) at a SUBSTANTIAL discount

for information. Since the entire course will be conducted online, you
will also need access to the Internet.
Assignments & Tests: Your final course grade will be based upon
completion of approximately fifteen assignments, a final project, and six quizzes.
All quizzes are taken online.
Proctored Exams: No
Additional Comments: It’s important that you have your textbook
and access to the required software the first day of class, so please
plan accordingly. This is a short term class and time will pass VERY
quickly. The course is designed to allow you to work ahead if you would
like. If you fall behind, however, it is very difficult for you to catch
up. If you don’t wish to remain in the class, contact the Counseling
Center or Distance Learning Help Desk to initiate the process of
withdrawing from the class. Failure to do so may result in your receipt
of a failing grade.
