BUSN 1051-30 General Accounting

An introductory course in accounting, Business 1051 stresses theory and principles of elementary accounting applicable to single proprietorship. The course includes the entire bookkeeping cycle. The program gives the student practical training for clerical, bookkeeping, and managerial positions

  • Textbook & Estimated Costs:
    • Rental Textbook: College Accounting, 9th Edition, McQuaig & Bille, ISBN: 0-618-824-170/978-0618-824-175. Houghton Mifflin Co., 2008. Rental Price is 20% of the cost of the book. 
    • Purchase: Working Papers with Study Guide 1-13 to Accompany College Accounting, 9th Edition, McQuaig & Bille, Approximate cost is $35.00-$40.00
  • Estimated Time Per Week: Students can expect to spend approximately 10 hours per week reading, doing homework assignments, and completing exams.
  • Special Requirements: All students are expected to turn in homework on the original working papers pages. Copies will not be accepted. Directions for the course are included in the course syllabus. Students can submit their work via U.S. postal mail, the LRC on campus, the TC aides at TCI, or attachment using ETUDES online. Students are expected to work independently. This course is not delivered online through the Etudes program although you are encouraged to submit work and communicate with the instructor through ETUDES. Using ETUDES will provide more timely feedback.
  • Assignments & Tests: Assignments include workbook homework from each chapter, problems, short essay, open book exams, and a proctored midterm and final. Proctored exams include multiple choice questions and problem completion.
  • Proctored Exams: Yes- See the Proctor Identification Procedures for directions on how to set up a proctor for approval. Proctors must be approved prior to use. You must have written approval by the second week of class to use a proctor (no approval is necessary to use Taft College LRC proctors).
  • Additional Comments: Because this is a distance-learning course, attendance is not an issue. Assignments must be turned in by the due dates in the course syllabus. Homework and tests are expected to be completed and postmarked/turned in on time. Students not submitting the first homework assignment on time will be automatically dropped from the course. After that, it is the responsibility of the student to drop the course. Contact the counseling center or the distance learning help desk to drop the course.
