Psyc 2033-40, Personal & Social Adjustment
The course focuses on the personal choices people face throughout life
and presents the necessary tools to evaluate these choices. Students are
encouraged to examine their values and attitudes toward education, personal
autonomy, work, love, sex roles and sexuality, intimate relationships,
loneliness and solitude, and death.

- The instructor will be available on campus during office hours, 8:00
a.m. – 4:00 p.m., Monday thru Thursday in person or you may contact me
by telephone. Phone calls will be taken during office hours or at other
times agreed upon between the student and instructor. Messages will be
answered and assignments will be graded daily.

Velma. Becoming Aware: A Text/Workbook for Human Relations and
Personal Adjustment. Dubuque, Iowa, Kendal/Hunt, 2007.
The textbook is available in the Taft College bookstore at
a cost of $71.50. You will need to purchase the text.
- Estimated Time Per Week:
Students can expect to spend approximately
12 to 14 hours per week reading, writing, participating in online
discussions, and taking exams.
- Special Requirements:
The entire course will be conducted
online through the ETUDES program. Students are required to have Internet
access, an email address, the ability to use word processing, conduct
Internet searches, attach files, send emails, and other basic computer
skills. Students are expected to work independently. Follow the log in
instructions below. Contact me or the help desk staff by the first day of
class if you have problems logging in.
- Assignments & Tests:
Students will complete 1 introduction assignment, 3 concept
papers, several journal assignments, 3 discussion topics with reviews, and 3
exams.

Because this is a distance learning course,
attendance is not an issue; however, turning assignments in on time is. If
you do not meet the first assignment deadline, I will assume you do not wish
to stay in the class and drop you unless you contact me. After that, it is
your responsibility to drop the course. Drops will not be backdated. Contact
the counseling center or the distance learning help desk to drop the course.
