Director of Library and Learning Resources:
Dr. Mimi Collins mcollins@taft.org came to Taft College in 1999. She has been a high school English teacher, school librarian, county school librarian, public librarian, and administrative librarian at a state library. Dr. Collins grew up in the former Panama Canal Zone and has worked in Missouri, Arizona, Micronesia, Australia, American Samoa, and West Africa.

Instructional Support Coordinator:

r. Robert Hill rhill@taft.org is a former adjunct instructor who returned to Taft College in 2001 to coordinate LRC services. He has been a police officer, chiropractor, and medical education manager.

Library and Learning Resources Assistant:
Linda Silveira lsilveira@taft.org has been with the Taft College Library since1978, starting as a textbook clerk and now overseeing the daily operations of the Library.  Linda does acquisitions, copy cataloging, and circulation as well as providing reference assistance to students, faculty, and staff members. 

Senior Learning Assistance/Tutoring Technician:
Mary Decker mdecker@taft.org , a Taft College graduate, started working in the LRC in 1999 as a part-time Instructional Aide and became full-time Senior Technician in 2000. She oversees the daily operations of the LRC and assists the faculty with special assignments and required lab time. Mary was voted "Most Supportive Staff Member" by the EOPS students in 2001.

Library and Learning Resources Technicians:
Karl Bender, Dan Elissague, Lisa Lupica-Hill, and Mabel Yetter assist the students, faculty, and staff of Taft College with Library and Learning Resource materials and services.

Tutoring Aide:
Margaret Torczon mtorczon@taft.org has been helping with our tutoring programs since 1994.  Margaret is the LRC tutor liasion and also tutors students in EOPS.

Tutors:
Taft College students have onsite master tutors and peer tutors, and online professional tutors who help with everything from reading, writing, math, and science to advanced courses. Tutors work by appointment, for drop-in tutoring, or in small groups. To sign up, or for more information, ask at the LRC.

Matt CooperMatt Cooper is a senior Math tutor at Taft College. Matt was born in Bakersfield and lived in Taft for nine years before moving to McKittrick. He attended McKittrick school and graduated Salutatorian of the 2005 class of Taft Union High School. He is currently attending Taft College and the University of San Diego (online) where he is majoring in premed. His hobbies include flying, traveling, writing music, and going to the gym.

 

 

Wei HillWei Hill is a senior Math tutor at Taft College. She emigrated to the United States in 1992 from Xian, China and has since became a US citizen. She was a high school teacher in China. She was an Education major at Xian University where she received her Bachelors degree. She received her Associates degree from Taft College in 2001, and in 2005 she received her Bachelor of Arts degree from California State University Bakersfield in Liberal Studies with a concentration in Mathematics. She has been a senior tutor at Taft College since 2000. She loves helping students understand math.

Cooking Chinese food is her favorite passion and she also enjoys traveling.

Megan ChristensenMegan Christensen is a senior Liberal Arts tutor at Taft College. She has been a senior tutor since the fall semester of 2005. She graduated from Taft College in 2004 with an Associates degree in Liberal Arts. Megan is currently attending National University where she is pursuing a Bachelor's degree of English. She aspires to teach high school level English and, after her master's degree, college English. Megan enjoys traveling and interior decorating.
Kristal PowellKristal Powell is a senior Liberal Arts tutor at Taft College. Kristal has lived in Taft her whole life. She received an Associates degree in Liberal Arts from Taft College. She is currently pursuing a Bachelor's degree of Criminal Justice at California State University Bakersfield. Kristal really enjoys helping others. Her hobbies include working with her two wonderful horses.
